HCV Endorses Jim Ellis for Supervisor in Chickahominy

James M. "Jim" Ellis, Jr. is the clear choice for election to the Board of Supervisors from the Chickhominy District on November 6th. Hanover Conservation Voters has endorsed Ellis over incumbant Robert Setliff because of Ellis' genuine committment to responsive government. Ellis shares HCV's dismay at the contrived exclusion of meaningful citizen input during the recent Comprehensive Plan Update process. Ellis also shares our conviction that the Comprehensive Plan revisions are "too much -- too fast" and that they ignore the concerns of a well-informed majority of Hanover citizens.

Jim Ellis believes that good public policy decisions are made when government officials demonstrate respect for their constituents' opinions. We agree. His election on November 6th will give Chickahominy voters the kind of representation they need and deserve.

HCV Endorses Aubrey "Bucky" Stanley & Elton Wade, Sr.

Because of their steadfast commitment to sensible growth and their unwavering opposition to the 2007 Comprehensive Plan Update, Hanover Conservation Voters (HCV) is pleased to endorse Supervisors Aubrey “Bucky” Stanley (Beaverdam) and Elton Wade, Sr. (Cold Harbor) for re-election to the Hanover County Board of Supervisors on November 6, 2007.

For many years, Bucky Stanley and Elton Wade have pursued a sensible and responsible vision for managed and measured growth in Hanover County. HCV plans to provide Bucky Stanley and Elton Wade with several new colleagues who share their vision and respect for the majority of citizens who have asked for responsible growth, conservation of the County’s natural resources, and historical preservation.

HCV is a non-partisan, registered political action committee (PAC) that helps to elect candidates who will champion common sense growth in Hanover County. HCV interviews and screens candidates, concentrating its resources on races in which HCV money and volunteers will make a difference.

Unfortunately, while some elected officials in Hanover County publicly espouse conservation values, they often enact policies that do very little to conserve Hanover’s environment and future quality of life. The controversial 4-3 vote to approve the Comprehensive Plan Update was a stark reminder of how the concerns and interests of a majority of Hanover’s citizens were disregarded by some elected officials, county planners, and policy makers. HCV strongly believes that a greater alignment between a healthy environment, and measure growth, voters' concerns, and policy development will be achieved through the ballot box on November 6, 2007. As James Buchanan, our 15th American President once said, “The ballot box is the surest arbiter of disputes among free men.”

Remember in November - it’s Your Home, Your Vote, and Your Voice.

An invitation....

You are invited to become an active member of the Hanover Conservation Voters (HCV). HCV is a local, non-partisan, political action committee, duly registered with the Virginia Board of Elections. We work to elect public officials who demonstrate a sincere commitment to preserving Hanover's natural resources and protecting its historic landmarks by relying upon two crucial resources: volunteers and money.

If you believe that Hanover's natural beauty and its historic treasures should be preserved for our children and grandchildren,
PLEASE JOIN US!

HCV is not affiliated with any political party. Candidate endorsements are made on the basis of agreement with HCV's conservation positions, regardless of candidate's party affiliation.

YOU CAN GIVE YOUR TIME.
We need volunteers to help deliver our message by phoning voters and asking them to support our endorsed candidates. We need volunteers to help monitor voting records, assess candidates, process mailings, or conduct meetings to inform friends, family, and neighbors.

YOU CAN GIVE MONEY.
Unfortunately, political victories almost always come with a substantial price tag. We know that we will face well-financed special interests willing to invest significant sums to elect candidates of their choosing.

OR YOU CAN GIVE BOTH!
